Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency NWPHYD003 - Develop and maintain ratings
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to develop and maintain ratings. It includes understanding relationships between variables, processes for collecting, interpreting and verifying data and producing compliant reports. It also includes applying relevant legislation, regulations, industry standards and workplace policies and procedures. This unit applies to water operators involved in the monitoring of all the elements of the water cycle and environmental impacts. Those undertaking this unit would work autonomously, leading staff, while performing complex tasks in a broad range of contexts that could be unpredictable, including remote, confined spaces, working on or near water and working at heights. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Develop rating curves
  • Analyse existing measurements to establish trends and compare with existing ratings
  • Identify events at monitoring site that can affect stage discharge curve
  • Identify sources of error in ratings
  • Confirm and verify existing trends whilst developing rating curves
  • Identify and define new trends whilst developing rating curves
  • Develop rating curves in compliance with industry and stakeholder requirements
  • Use theoretical methods to create and extend ratings
  • Document processes and observations to provide traceability and accountability for quality assurance
  • Apply standard formulae to create ratings for pre-calibrated measuring structures
  • Apply quality codes to rating curves utilising workplace procedures and stakeholder requirements

Element: Report rating curves
  • Prepare and store required archival data to guarantee data security
  • Prepare and disseminate ratings according to stakeholder requirements
  • Make recommendations for future observations

Element: Review individual measurements
  • Identify monitoring objectives of site and stage discharge ratings requirements

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Range is restricted to essential operating conditions and any other variables essential to the work environment.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
